FunPlus Phoenix have confirmed the signing of Chris “chrisJ” de Jong from mousesports on a loan deal. The 30-year-old will take up captaincy duties in the ex-GODSENT lineup, in which he will reunite with his former mouz teammate Martin “STYKO” Styk.
chrisJ was on the lookout for a new team to represent after over seven years with mousesports. He was removed from the active lineup on Saturday to make way for Frederik “acoR” Gyldstrand, who was signed from MAD Lions.
The Dutchman will fill a role that has been vacant since Kevin “kRYSTAL” Amend was moved to the bench, in November. The team initially tested Luka “emi” Vuković for the position but ultimately decided to evaluate other options, according to the Serbian player.
chrisJ will be hoping to re-launch his career after a challenging 2020 tournament season. He averaged a 0.91 rating in all competitions and came under intense scrutiny in the final months of the year, when he became mousesports‘ primary AWPer following the departure of Özgür “woxic” Eker.
FunPlus Phoenix will make their first appearance on Wednesday, in the group stage of DreamHack Open January. The international team, who were unveiled by the Chinese organisation on Monday, have been placed in Group A alongside BIG, HellRaisers and Evil Geniuses.
