paiN beat Rebirth; advance to DH Open January grand final

paiN are through to the grand final of DreamHack Open January North America after besting Rebirth 2-0 in the upper bracket final. The Brazilian team got off to a strong start in the four-team tournament, edging past Triumph in their opening matchup to set up a bout against Rebirth, who had surprised in their first match by claiming a one-sided win over Extra Salt.

Vinicios “PKL” Coelho was the frontrunner for his side to kick off the series, keeping paiN in control on the attack of their Vertigo map pick. Rounds for Rebirth were few and far between in the first half as paiN raced to an 11-4 lead, adding a pistol win following the side swap to maintain control.

PKL led the way for paiN in the series with a 1.32 rating

Rebirth began to mount a comeback effort after prevailing with a force-buy, but were quickly left facing down map point at 15-7. However, Zack “XotiC” Elshani and Collin “wrath” McSweegan kept Rebirth in contention as they rallied back to round 30, but then paiN managed to edge out a victory to take an early lead in the series.

It seemed as if Rebirth would answer back in similar fashion on Dust2 as they started the map with a six-round lead, even countering paiN‘s first set of rounds with wins of their own for a 9-2 scoreline. The Brazilian roster finally stabilised and tightened up towards the end of the half, and completely turned the tables once they were on the attack as they only conceded one additional round en route to a 16-11 victory.
