Heroic, Complexity, FPX through to ESL Pro League Season 13 playoffs

ESL Pro League Season 13’s Group A came to a close on Friday, determining Heroic, Complexity and FunPlus Phoenix as the first three teams advancing to the next stage, as well as the eliminations of OG, Renegades and BIG.

Heroic and Complexity, who had both already secured progression to the playoffs prior to their encounter, squared off to decide which team would top the group and skip the first two rounds of the single-elimination bracket by advancing to the Play-In. The Play-In is reserved for each group’s best-performing team and has two direct paths to the semi-finals up for grabs, with the losers going to the quarter-finals.

Heroic lock down the No.1 spot in Group A with a perfect record

The Danish side came out strongly on Mirage to take an early lead in the series thanks to an impactful showing from Casper “cadiaN” Møller, who posted a 31-13 KDD and 102.5 ADR on the way to a 16-12 win. Benjamin “blameF” Bremer’s side hit back with ten-straight T rounds on Train to level the tie from a disadvantaged position, but it was Heroic who came out on top after a nail-biting 30-round decider on Nuke.

In the middle of the pack, OG and FunPlus Phoenix battled it out for the third and final spot in the playoffs, with the loser being bumped down to the lower half of the standings. The matchup saw Nikolaj “niko” Kristensen return to the starting lineup as OG got off to winning ways with a narrow 16-14 victory on Nuke before FunPlus Phoenix replied with a comfortable 16-11 on their opponent’s map pick. Miikka “suNny” Kemppi and co. fought tooth and nail on Inferno to edge out OG 16-14 and book their place in the playoffs.

Meanwhile, Renegades secured a consolation victory over BIG with their first map wins of the tournament in a 2-0 scoreline despite both teams already being out of the playoff running.
