FURIA through to ESL Pro League quarter-finals over G2

FURIA claimed victory over G2 in the first match of the second round of the ESL Pro League Season 13 playoffs, blitzing into the series by taking their map pick decisively (16-5), and although they couldn’t run away on the defense on G2‘s pick, Mirage, a high-octane Terrorist side was enough for Andrei “arT” Piovezan and company to close out the series.

“Once the fast plays kept working and working, that’s FURIA’s special, right?” Paytyn “junior” Johnson said after the match regarding their blistering attack, “so you run it until they can stop it and it looks like they couldn’t stop it.”

Having secured their quarter-final spot, FURIA are now waiting for the loser of the play-in series that will pit Group C and D top seeds Gambit and Astralis on Thursday, as the winner of the play-in match will advance straight to the semi-finals.

FURIA will play the loser of Gabmit vs. Astralis in the quarter-finals

FURIA charged out of the gates on their map pick, Vertigo, winning the first pistol round on the attack with doubles by Yuri “yuurih” Santos and junior before going on to take nine out of the first ten rounds as yuurih continued to show fine form in the 11-4 half.

The same duo that got doubles in the first pistol round repeated in the second, after which the Brazilian squad plowed their way to victory, giving up just one more round to seal the first map comfortably, 16-5, as arT put a knife in Nikola “NiKo” Kovač’s back after a 5vs1 situation in the last round.

FURIA were once again first to make a splash on Mirage, winning the first pistol round on the defense and taking four of the first five rounds in play, although this time around G2 didn’t let the slow start hinder them and the Nemanja “nexa” Isaković-led squad took control of proceedings on the terrorist side, going on an eight round tear before giving up the last two in a 9-6 half.

FURIA didn’t flinch and brought the map right back to a tie on the attack, suffocating G2 with fast-paced plays and winning 10 rounds to secure the two-map victory and a spot in the quarter-finals.
