Spirit have fended off Dignitas 2-1 (Nuke 14-16, Dust2 16-9, Inferno 16-7) to advance to the semi-finals of the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown. The Leonid “chopper” Vishnyakov-led side now need one more victory to qualify for the Spring Final, as they are heading into Sunday’s clash against G2.
After having demolished Liquid on Nuke in the opening round, Dignitas picked the map again in their series against Spirit and reaped the benefits once more, albeit in a much more difficult affair. It took the Swedish-Norwegian team a while to warm up, as they found themselves down 2-8 on the T side after losing an anti-force to Viktor “sdy” Orudzhev‘s Deagle, but they managed to step up late in the half to make it over to the defense with six.
It was Dignitas‘ turn to find some success with pistols then, with Jonas “Lekr0” Olofsson‘s Deagle finding three in the second round to set up a huge run that saw the underdogs reach map point. Spirit would not let themselves be downed easily and took the map to the last round of regulation, but Adam “friberg” Friberg & co. snatched it away at the last minute, taking matters into their own hands with an aggressive lobby crunch.
Spirit had Dust2 under lock and key for the most part once they got going on their T side following a pistol round loss. With a comfortable 9-6 half in the bag, the Russian-Ukrainian squad went on to trade blows with Dignitas in an extended battle of forcebuys, but they ended up finding the winning formula after six rounds went back and forth and ran a convincing defence to equalize the series at 16-9.
It was a similar story on the deciding Inferno. Beyond a Deagle buy win and a couple of subsequent rounds Dignitas struggled to keep up with Spirit once sdy helped his team get the economy on their side with key multikills, and the favorites went on to put on a dominant showing on the CT side on the back of a second-round force of their own to close the series at 16-7, 2-1.
