Vitality ease past BIG in DreamHack Masters Spring

Vitality are one victory away from reaching the DreamHack Masters Spring playoffs following a quick victory over an off-colour BIG side, who leave the tournament in 9th-12th place and without a single map taken from their best-of-three matches. Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut finished the match at the top of the scoreboard by some distance, but some key contributions were also made by Kévin “misutaaa” Rabier, especially on Mirage, the closer of the two maps.

“Our main goal is the RMR tournament,” Richard “shox” Papillon said after the match when asked about Vitality‘s first tournament since picking up Jayson “Kyojin” Nguyen Van. “We are taking DreamHack as preparation to get the best possible result in the RMR.”

Vitality took control of proceedings on Mirage after losing the first three rounds and went on a dominant 8-0 run, during which misutaaa picked up 14 frags. BIG then put their foot down as they secured back-to-back rounds to halt their opponents’ momentum, but the French side regained their composure enough to end the half with a 10-5 lead.

ZywOo finished both maps at the top of the scoreboard

The second half began at a frantic pace, with rounds going both ways as neither side seemed capable of assuming control of the game. That trend continued until the 22nd round, when Kyojin and Dan “apEX” Madesclaire clutched a 2v5 situation to put Vitality on 14 rounds, with the French in-game leader dealing the finishing blow a couple of rounds later after being left alone against two opponents.

Things looked gloomy for BIG during the early stages of Nuke as Vitality stormed to a 7-2 lead on the T side, but Germans tightened up and managed to go into the break down by just one round, with Florian “syrsoN” Rische leading the charge with 14 frags and a stunning 7-1 opening duel record to his name.

But BIG‘s hopes of taking the series to a third map were shattered after the side switch: They were unable to post a single round on the attack as they struggled to break through a Vitality defence led by ZywOo, who went 14-1 and averaged almost 180 damage per round to inspire his team to a comfortable victory, which sets them up against the winner of Complexity vs. FURIA in the next round.
