Astralis secured a 2-0 victory over OG to close out the first day of Flashpoint 3, the European Regional Major Ranking (RMR) event. In a rematch of the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown game — Astralis‘ last one with Nicolai “device” Reedtz — the Danes got their revenge and advanced in the upper bracket.
Inferno was a 41-round thriller that went Astralis‘ way despite the best efforts of Nikolaj “niko” Kristensen and Shahar “flameZ” Shushan, while an impressive display from Astralis on Nuke finished things off in two.
“Great start to the tournament once again, let’s keep going this time,” Astralis‘ captain Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander wrote on Twitter after putting up a 1.23 rating for the series, proving pivotal to the victory alongside Andreas “Xyp9x” Højsleth. On the other hand, OG‘s star duo Mateusz “mantuu” Wilczewski and Valdemar “valde” Bjørn Vangså struggled to live up to expectations in the series and will be hoping they can make a deep run through the lower bracket of the 16-team event – where they face off against Vitality first.
A second-round force-buy win set up OG for a 4-1 lead on the T side of their map pick, Inferno, but Astralis came back into it with lockdown defenses to bounce back to a strong 10-5 half time score. The Danes extended to 12-5 before valde‘s Deagle triple kill changed the tides of the game, starting the comeback for OG. They eventually forced overtime with niko being the hero, but after two sets of added rounds it was Astralis that came out on top with strong play from Xyp9x and gla1ve.
Astralis showed some vintage form on Nuke as they powered on the offensive side to grab an 8-1 lead in no time. The struggles of OG were brought to an end thanks to flameZ‘ ramp lockdown in 3v5, inspiring his team to claw the scoreline back to 9-6 for the half. Unfortunately, there was little to see from OG in the second part of the map. Their pistol win was countered by Astralis‘ force, leading to a comfortable closeout, 16-11.
