Renegades edge out ORDER to win EPIC League Oceania

Following two nail-biter overtime maps, Renegades managed to take down domestic rivals ORDER to win EPIC League Oceania 2021, the first RMR event of the year. The victory secures Renegades the place on top of the rankings for the time being, with at least one more RMR tournament set to be played in Oceania before the regional team to attend the PGL Stockholm Major in October is decided.

ORDER, who entered the grand final on a 23-match win streak dating back to February, will be left disappointed that they couldn’t convert their good play in EPIC League Oceania 2021 into a title. In the upper bracket final of the tournament, ORDER secured a convincing win over Renegades (16-12 Dust2, 16-7 Inferno), but couldn’t pull off a repeat in the grand final, falling short by the smallest of margins (19-17 Inferno, 19-16 Dust2).

INS recorded just one below-average rated map across the tournament

The standout player for Renegades at the tournament was INS. The 22-year-old rifler averaged a 1.21 rating across 10 maps played and topped the charts in the grand final, commenting after the game that the win brought “so much relief”. INS also confirmed that he has been in-game leading the team at this event, stepping into the role that was left vacant by Christopher “dexter” Nong‘s departure to mousesports.

Aside from Renegades and ORDER, who grabbed 1600 and 1500 RMR points respectively, two more teams earned points by placing in the top four of the eight-team tournament. Michael “chelleos” Hawkins‘s Rooster came in third, which would ordinarily net them 1400 points, but their total point tally is yet to be confirmed as the team made multiple player swaps during the competition. Sitting in fourth and adding 1300 points to their name is Dire Wolves, whose Jared “HaZR” O’Bree was the highest-rated player at the tournament with a 1.28.

2. Australia ORDER – $3,000 + 1500 RMR Points
3. Australia Rooster – $1,500 + 1400* RMR Points
4. Australia Dire Wolves – $500 + 1300 RMR points
5-6. Australia VERTEX

* Rooster‘s points tally is currently unclear as they played with multiple different lineups throughout the tournament.

The only team to bring over RMR points from the 2020 season in Oceania is Renegades. The 100 points that were allocated to them after the partial RMR reset in January were deducted to 80 after the departure of dexter, making their current total 1680.
