zews steps down from Evil Geniuses – Report

Wilton “zews” Prado will not be continuing in his coaching role with Evil Geniuses, HLTV.org has learned. The Brazilian has left his position by mutual consent over a difference of opinion regarding the team’s direction, and he will not be behind the players during their upcoming tournaments in Europe.

zews joined Evil Geniuses in April 2020 following the departure of Chet “Chet” Singh and oversaw three regional titles during his first four months in charge. However, the team hit a run of poor results after travelling to Europe in October and skipped their last three events of the year, including the BLAST Premier Fall Showdown and IEM Global Challenge, because of COVID-19-related travel restrictions.

zews has been in charge of EG’s team since April 2020

Less than two months into 2021, Evil Geniuses parted ways with Ethan “Ethan” Arnold, who decided to continue his career in VALORANT, and signed ex-Complexity player Owen “oBo” Schlatter to fill the vacant spot on the roster. Just six weeks later, another change was made as EG picked up former Virtus.pro and Envy member Michał “MICHU” Müller to replace Tarik “tarik” Celik, who was moved to the bench.

Positive results have remained elusive for Evil Geniuses, who exited their last two tournaments, FunSpark ULTI Europe Final and cs_summit 8, without winning a single match. They have been outside the top 20 in the world rankings since late April, dropping to 38th following the latest ranking update.

The North American team will return to action on Thursday in IEM Summer, in which they will face Spirit in the opening round. They are also slated to compete in the BLAST Premier Spring Final and in the IEM Cologne 2021 Play-In before the summer break.
